Gnash Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

The short version

Gnash (“the app”, package com.cesare8.gnash) is an Android app published by Fast Forward Creatives, which is the data controller for the purposes of this policy.

Gnash has no account, no login and no server of its own, and the developer gets no analytics about you. Everything the app records about you stays in the app’s private storage on your own device. The one part of the app that uses the network is Google Play Billing, which is there to sell and restore the Gnash+ unlock — see Network use below.

Microphone

Gnash asks for microphone permission so it can measure how loud you are while you use it.

  • The microphone is only live for as long as you are holding the ring, and is stopped again when you let go.
  • Audio is read in short chunks and used to compute a single loudness number, then discarded.
  • Audio is never written to a file, never stored, and never transmitted.
  • No recording of your voice is kept, by the app or by anyone else.
  • No speech recognition or transcription is performed. Nothing you say is interpreted — only its volume is measured.

If you deny microphone permission the app still works, and falls back to a simulated level instead of your real voice.

What is stored on your device

When you choose to keep a howl, the app saves a small record of it so the Vault and Patterns screens can show your history. Each record contains only:

  • a loudness value,
  • a random number used to draw the shard’s shape,
  • whether whisper mode was on,
  • the date and time,
  • how long it lasted,
  • which subject you picked, as a short tag such as boss or commute,
  • an identifier for the record, derived from the time it was saved.

Howls you discard are not saved at all. This history is kept in the app’s private storage, readable only by Gnash on this device. Your theme choice, whether you have seen the walkthrough, and whether the weekly reminder is switched on are stored the same way.

Backups and transfer

Gnash opts out of Android’s backup system. Everything it stores is excluded from Google cloud backup and from Android’s phone-to-phone transfer, so it is never copied off this device and never restored onto another one. That is what makes the deletion promise below true: uninstalling really does remove it.

What is not collected

Gnash does not collect, and has no ability to collect: your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, advertising ID, device identifiers, photos, files, browsing history, or any audio.

The app contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising SDK and no session-recording tool. Nothing in the app reports your activity back to the developer, and the developer has no dashboard of your behaviour to look at.

Network use and Google’s own components

Gnash has no server and makes no network requests of its own. One third-party component does use the network: Google Play Billing, which sells the Gnash+ unlock and restores it. Two things follow from that, and are worth stating plainly:

  • Play Billing connects to Google Play when the app starts, to ask whether you already own the unlock and to look up its price. This happens whether or not you ever buy anything.
  • Play Billing is what puts the INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions on the app. They appear on the Play listing for that reason, not because Gnash sends anything of its own. It also bundles Google’s own libraries, which report diagnostics about the billing library to Google, on Google’s terms, not to the developer.

Nothing Gnash records about you — not a loudness number, not a subject, not a timestamp — is part of any of that. From a purchase the developer sees only the order record Google Play shows every developer: a date, the product, an order ID and an amount. Google’s handling of this traffic is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

Purchases

Gnash+ is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Nothing renews and you are not charged again. Google Play, not the developer, processes the payment and holds the record of it. Refunds are handled under Google Play’s refund policy.

Notifications

If you switch on the weekly Global Scream reminder and allow notifications, the app schedules that reminder locally using Android’s alarm manager. There is no push service and no server involved, and no notification data leaves your phone.

Children

Gnash is not directed to children. It is intended for a general adult audience. The developer does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because the app collects no personal information at all.

Your choices and your rights

Because nothing is collected or transmitted, there is no account to close, no data export to request and nothing held on a server to delete.

  • To delete your Vault history and settings: uninstall the app, or use Android Settings → Apps → Gnash → Storage → Clear storage.
  • To revoke microphone access: Android Settings → Apps → Gnash → Permissions.

If the laws of your region (for example the GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA) give you rights of access, correction, deletion or portability, they are satisfied by the above: the developer holds no personal data about you to act on. Gnash does not sell or share personal information, because it has none.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes what it collects, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the “last updated” date above will change.
